Millie looks ahead to a healthier future
A woman from Bury wants to inspire others to get into shape following her weight loss success with help from Bury’s Health Trainers.
Millie Chant, aged 64 has been getting support from Community Services Bury’s Health Trainers to reach a healthier weight.
To date, Millie has lost 2 stone and dropped 2 dress sizes. She puts her success down to the support she’s received from her Health Trainer, friends and family, together with eating more healthily and taking regular exercise.
Millie said:
“A few months ago, I went to my GP as I wanted to get help to lose some weight, my GP gave me some information about NHS Health Trainers. I didn’t get in touch straight away, but when I was ready I put in a call, and have never looked back.”
“My health trainer was fantastic, she gave me support, encouraged and motivated me to make healthy changes, she helped me to set my goals and make plans for how I was going to reach them.”
“It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I started to diary everything I ate and took a good look at my portion sizes. Before I lost weight I found it difficult to exercise and now I exercise every day. It’s amazing what a difference losing weight has made to my life. It's life changing, I’m so pleased that I’ve come this far. Since I lost weight, I’ve got more ‘go in me’ and things that I couldn’t do before, like walking long distances without getting out of breath, are now just a distant memory. I’m feeling a lot better, more energised and am determined to keep it off for good.”
Adults in Bury can get help to make small but significant changes to their health and wellbeing with the help of Health Trainers. The Health Trainers service is free and completely confidential. In addition to help offered to lose weight through eating healthily and physical activity, there is also support from health trainers for those who want to improve their sleep, reduce their alcohol consumption, breastfeed and quit smoking.
Victoria Marsh, Millie’s health trainer added: “Many weight loss diets promise to help people lose weight quickly. Often, these diets focus on short-term results and don’t work in the long term. They may also be bad for people’s health. Millie is such an inspiration, she has lost weight the healthy way by making permanent changes to the way she eats and through the introduction of regular exercise. The key is you don’t have to make big changes to make a difference, a few small alterations can help you achieve a healthy weight, and there are plenty of ways to make physical activity part of everyday life. I’d encourage anyone who wants support to lose weight to get in touch with health trainers, today.”
