Health staff dress down in aid of hospice

Health staff have been swapping their suits and shoes for jeans and trainers for a good cause.

NHS Bury has launched a monthly dress down Friday event, which offers non-uniform staff the chance to dress casually for work on the last Friday of each month.  In return, staff are asked to make a voluntary donation of £1 to a nominated local charity.

The first charity to benefit from this fundraising effort is Bury Hospice.  The preferred local charity will be reviewed every three months, as chosen by staff.

John Boyington, Chief Executive for NHS Bury said:

“We wanted to change the face of our regular working days just once a month, and dressing down is a great way to do this.  It’s such a simple idea to not only improve the working lives of staff, but to do something good for a local charity.  Bury Hospice do such great work for our local community and I’m delighted that they will benefit from this.”

Claire Warner, Director of Fundraising for Bury Hospice added:

“We are always delighted when anyone chooses to support Bury Hospice.  Many people don’t realise that Bury Hospice is a registered charity and has to find over 86% of its running costs every year through fundraising, hospice shops and lottery.  The idea of a monthly dress-down day is a simple one but an effective one which anyone can join in.  Thank you to NHS Bury for supporting us in this way and thank you in advance to anyone else who would like to copy the idea.”

The first charitable dress down day took place at the end of April, and as a result over £80 is now on its way to Bury Hospice.
