'Drop in' for help to quit

People wanting to quit smoking can ‘drop in’ for support from Bury Stop Smoking Service.

In addition to appointments arranged in advance for individuals or groups, the free and confidential NHS service also offers drop in clinics every Wednesday evening at Townside Primary Care Centre.

Bury Stop Smoking Service has a proven record of success.  Last year around 1,000 Bury people successfully quit with the help of the team.   People who are registered with a Bury GP practice or live or work in the town can access the service for free.

By seeking help from the service, people can expect confidential advice and support and information on the best stop smoking products, for example nicotine patches or gum, to help them manage their cravings whilst quitting.

Soraya Rigg, Specialist Stop Smoking Advisor for Community Services Bury said:  “Many adults in Bury still smoke, and smoking is known to be the biggest single cause of ill health and premature death in the UK, yet research suggests that the majority of smokers would like to quit.  That’s where we can help.  Quitting smoking takes motivation, but you don’t have to do it alone and we can give you the best chance of success.  The service is free and confidential.”

Drop-in clinics (no appointment needed – last drop in slot 6.45pm and people are seen on a first come first served basis) are held every Wednesday evening between 5 and 7pm) at Townside Primary Care Centre, Knowsley Place, Bury (opposite Bury Town Hall).

For people who would prefer to book an appointment, one to one sessions can be arranged by contacting the service.  Support is also offered in groups and over the phone.
