Stoma Care Service
The Stoma Care Service provides pre-operative counselling and post operative support to you and your family on all aspects of pre and post-operative stoma care.
This is a patient focused service always acting in the person's best interest by:
- Providing advocacy & emotional support
- Liaising with other health and voluntary organisations aiming to provide a seamless service
- Acting as a resource for other health professionals, families and carers
Your stoma care nurse will liaise with agencies and other health professionals on your behalf including District nurses and voluntary organisations and will advise you and your GP on your future prescription requirements.
Established stoma patients can seek advice and assessment on any aspects of stoma care, including:
- Discussion of treatment options
- Verbal and written information
- Samples of stoma appliances
- Counselling
- Practical advice
- Health promotion
- Nurse-led specialist clinics in the community
- Pre-operative care
- Post-operative care
- Continuing follow up
- Programmes of education related to stoma care
- Specialist Information
- Liaison with other professionals on the delivery of products (eg pharmacies and local delivery companies)
Who is eligible to access our service?
Anyone registered with a Bury GP.

Special Stoma Clinics are held at the following health centres, by appointment only:
- Prestwich Walk In Centre - Fridays - 9am to 12pm
- Townside Primary Care Centre - Tuesday - 1pm to 4pm
Home visits can be pre-arranged.
