Blackburn Street practices move date set

Staff based at the two GP Practices currently located at Blackburn Street Health Centre in Radcliffe, will be moving into their new home at Radcliffe Primary Care Centre, later this month.

The two GP Practices, Radcliffe Medical Practice (Drs. Qureshi & Behrana), and Dr. Khan’s Practice, will be moving on Friday 27th March 2009, and will be delivering services to their patients from their new base from Monday 30th March 2009. Patients of the two practices will be receiving letters to confirm details of the move and the new contact details for the Practices.

The two Practices will be located on the 1st floor of the impressive £10m development located on Church Street West, which operationally opened during February 2009.

In the coming weeks, patients will also be able to access a wide range of other health and wellbeing services, diagnostic tests, minor surgery, and a range of community services, including Community Midwives, Community Dentistry, Audiology, Health Visitors, Speech and Language Therapy, and much more. The Centre will also offer an on-site pharmacy for ready access to over the counter medicines and prescription drugs. Services will move into the centre in the coming weeks in a phased approach.

The move from Blackburn Street Health Centre to the new centre is the end of an era for some staff, who have worked from Blackburn Street Health Centre since it opened back in 1975.

Mr. Stephen Mills, Chief Executive for NHS Bury said; “Radcliffe Primary Care Centre is a very welcome addition to NHS Bury and a much needed new health resource in Radcliffe. I am delighted that the relocation of GP services from Blackburn Street Health Centre is now imminent, and that staff and patients are set to benefit from our modernisation of healthcare facilities.”

Irene Abbott, Practice Manager from Radcliffe Medical Practice added; “It will be a sad day when we leave Blackburn Street as I have been there since it first opened in January 1975. However I am looking forward to the move into the new purpose built centre along with all the new services that will be on offer.”

Dr. Khan added; “It has been wonderful and a rewarding time working from Blackburn Street Health Centre since 1975, I was the first GP to move into Blackburn Street Health Centre, and I am very sad to leave the place, but look forward to working from Radcliffe Primary Care Centre.”

Notes to Editor

The centre has been developed through a public/private partnership known as Lift (Local Improvement Finance Trust) involving NHS Bury and Community Solutions for Primary Care.

The state of the art centre extends to 4,800 square metres and offers clinical accommodation over three floors, including 45 consulting and examination rooms and 20 treatment and diagnostic rooms.

The construction of the building has generated significant local economic benefits including four apprenticeships created. The building incorporates a range of green technologies to reduce the environmental impact of the centre, including rainwater harvesting systems supplying reclaimed water, combined heat and power units, and solar thermal panels providing 30% of the daily hot water to the centre.
