NHS Bury – Lorenzo Regional Care

NHS Bury is on schedule to become the first early adopter of Lorenzo™ Regional Care Release 1.9 (LRC R1.9) by deploying the system across its community care settings by the end of November 2009.

Initially, this means a complete replacement of the Trust’s current patient administration system and will involve changes to working practices for 600 of the Trust’s 800 staff, across 31 community services. Training for all staff who will use Lorenzo Regional Care will take place during September and October.

As an early adopter, a number of staff members at NHS Bury have been involved in testing the product rigorously and have worked with Local Service Provider, CSC, to ensure that it is fit for purpose and will support the Trust in continuing to provide the best possible care for its patients.

LRC R1.9 is expected to deliver real benefits for patients and staff alike and will enable greater information sharing between services. It will allow appropriate clinical information to be shared between health care professionals to build a better picture of the patients’ care, which will support decision making and increase patient safety.

Early next year, LRC R1.9 will be able to have documents such as paper referrals uploaded into the system directly attached to the patient’s episode of care. This will enable all information to be stored within the patient record allowing health care professionals to view documentation instantly. LRC R1.9 will, from early next year, allow staff to enter clinical information directly into standardised electronic documentation. This will include the ability to record allergies and health issues as well as being able to complete clinical assessments. The Trust expects this to increase efficiency by reducing the number of times a patient is asked for basic health information, maximising clinical time. Additional functionality such as this will be gradually rolled out across services.
These are just some of the benefits that NHS Bury expects to realise in the coming months.

Mr. Stephen Mills, Chief Executive for NHS Bury said; “At NHS Bury, we believe that having good IT systems in place supports our staff in providing the best possible care for our patients. The Trust has previously been involved in successful early adopter programmes such as GP2GP and NHS Summary Care Records which can improve the safety and quality of patient care. We are pleased that we are once again leading the way with Lorenzo Regional Care and plan to introduce this system to all eligible community services by the end of November.”
