A choice of who provides services is better for patients

Press release

PRIDE launches in Bury

Patients, carers and health care staff in Bury have come together to share experiences to improve the quality of services provided for patients nearing the end of their life.

Known as ‘PRIDE’ which stands for Personal, Respect, Inclusion, Dignity and Experience, the project aims to capture the experiences of patients, carers and staff in order to help improve local health services in the future.

PRIDE was officially launched earlier this month. The launch event focused on experiences in end of life care and was attended by 160 patients, carers and staff, and presented an opportunity to share progress to date and put PRIDE firmly on the map.

PRIDE provides a systematic process to gather experiences and use this to identify opportunities for improvement. It also offers insight as to what a service feels like from the patient’s perspective and ensures their needs are met.

NHS Bury has been working closely with staff, patients and carers over recent months to gain their valued perspective on local health services surrounding end of life care. The project considers what works well and where changes could be made to enhance the experience of patients and carers.

End of life care is the first of a number of PRIDE projects, eventually it will be embedded in all patient pathways to ensure these important areas are addressed.

Anne Coates, Director of Strategy and Deputy Chief Executive for NHS Bury said;
“Traditionally we have asked for the views of the public on a large scale, regardless of whether these people have experienced the health services we are asking about. PRIDE is different and focuses our efforts on the patients who have experienced a particular service.”

“PRIDE aims to put the patient at the heart of service planning, by listening to and learning from experiences and feedback, we can be more responsive, recognise individual preferences and create more innovative and flexible services that meet people’s needs in the final stage of life.”
