Press release
Business as usual for Urgent Treatment Centre over Easter
Patients who require treatment over the Easter and the *Early May Bank Holiday (*an extra long weekend due to the Royal wedding) are reminded that Bury Urgent Treatment Centre is open every day from early until late, without the need for an appointment. The service provides treatment for patients that need seeing quickly, but their condition isn’t an emergency or life threatening.
Local people are also reminded to stock up their cupboards with over the counter medicines such as paracetamol, cough remedies, tummy upset remedies and plasters, ready for the bank holidays. Patients that require repeat prescriptions are urged to think ahead and get hold of the required amount before General Practices close on the public holidays.
The message from NHS Bury comes as part of the Care about the cost campaign. The campaign urges patients to choose carefully which NHS service best meets their needs, whilst making sure that the limited NHS resources available to Bury are being spent wisely.
The full range of healthcare options available to patients and details of which pharmacies will be open over the bank holidays will be available online at www.bury.nhs.uk or by calling NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. By choosing and using the right services, patients can expect to be seen or treated more quickly, whilst keeping emergency services free for those patients who need them most.
“Many common complaints and minor ailments such as back-ache, minor sports injuries, stomach upsets, coughs, colds and sore-throats can be treated by having a well stocked medicine cabinet.” Said Dr. Peter Elton, NHS Bury’s Director of Public Health. “Just having a few basic essentials at home can help to treat the symptoms of many common illnesses and injuries.
