Re-appointment of Audit Chair
The Appointments Commission has confirmed the re-appointment of Roger Pegum as Audit Chair to the Board of NHS Bury (Bury Primary Care Trust) for a period of four years from 1st January 2010 to 31st December 2013.
NHS Bury receives the NHS budget for the local population and is responsible for planning and delivering health services to people in Bury.
The role of Audit Chair is to fulfil the duties of a Non-executive director and to Chair the Audit Committee, which reviews the effectiveness of internal control and risk management for the organisation. Non-executive directors play a key role in overseeing NHS Bury and ensuring that it meets its statutory duties to deliver healthcare services and improve the health of the local population.
The role of Audit Chair is remunerated at £13,136 per annum and is crucial to the decision making of the NHS Bury Board which is made up of Executive directors and Non-executive directors, and of the Audit Committee which is a formal committee of the NHS Bury Board.
All Non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendation, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public.
Roger, from Middleton, has a career in Higher Education. Roger has held the post of Non-executive director to the NHS Bury Board since January 2007. He declares no political activity and holds no other ministerial appointments.
Regarding his re-appointment Roger said; “I am delighted to be re-appointed to the Board of NHS Bury. Over the next four years, I hope to continue to make a significant contribution towards Bury becoming a healthier Borough with the first class health services it deserves.”
NHS Bury’s Chair, Hilda Harvey added; “I am delighted that Roger has been re-appointed to the Board of NHS Bury as Audit Chair. He has brought insight and knowledge to the Board and the Audit Committee since 2007 and his experience will help us to rise to the challenges we face over the coming years.”
The appointment has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments' Code of Practice.
