Safer cleaner care
Help prevent the spread of infections
We are taking steps to prevent healthcare associated infections (HCAIs), to do this we are working closely with our community hospital, local care homes and health care staff to reduce the risk from bugs such as MRSA and Clostridium Difficile.
There are three areas where healthcare staff, patients and their carers can make a real difference in preventing the spread of infection, these are, by:
- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
- Maintaining good personal cleanliness
- Maintaining good home cleanliness
How you can help prevent the spread of infections
Tell your health professional if you have had a recent infection.
It's your right to challenge your health professional if you think they have not washed their hands correctly – don’t be afraid to ask.
Hand washing is the most important activity in the prevention and control of infections.
Wash hands well and often with simple soap and water.
Ensure you rinse and dry your hands thoroughly to reduce the risk of sore hands.
If you are taking antibiotics make sure you finish your course, otherwise new bacteria could develop which do not respond to antibiotics.
