Case study

James Hargreaves

James Hargreaves aged 68 from Tottington in Bury was referred to Bury Dermatology Service by his GP.

James said: “Out of the blue, I’d developed a skin condition some months back. What started as a few small innocent looking blisters on my legs, soon got much worse, I didn’t know what the problem was but the skin condition spread and my skin became tremendously sore, inflamed and painful to the touch. The impact was such that it was difficult to carry on with life as normal, and sadly some things had to be put on hold.

“My hobbies had to be put on the back burner too, I couldn’t get a good night sleep or relax easily, and I’d even had to cancel a family holiday.

“The treatment I had been trying out hadn’t worked, so I had another chat with my GP to try something new and he referred me to a specialist at the Bury Dermatology Service. Within a few weeks I had an appointment and saw a consultant at Radcliffe Primary Care Centre. The centre is really easy to access and it was nice to be seen in the community, and not needing to take a trip to hospital.

“The consultant recognised the condition straight away and prescribed a new treatment. Within a day my suffering had started to be alleviated. The new treatment worked like magic. I’d describe my experience of Bury Dermatology Service as life changing. I’m almost 100% now and am back doing the thinks I love, I still have check ups at the service, but the condition no longer holds me back.

“I was really impressed with the efficiency of the Bury Dermatology Service and the staff are really lovely, not to mention the fantastic facilities at Radcliffe. I was really pleased with the service I received and can now get on with enjoying my life and doing the things I enjoy without being held back.”
