Maternity care in Bury
Making it Better is a programme of improvements to NHS services for pregnant women, babies, children and young people throughout Greater Manchester. These include providing more modern hospital facilities and equipment, more doctors, nurses and midwives with improved skills and investments in community services to help bring care closer to home.
The changes were agreed in 2007 following one of the biggest consultations in NHS history, taking into account the views of patients, staff and the public throughout Greater Manchester.
A recent review of the Making it Better programme has confirmed that from Spring 2012, overnight children’s, maternity and neonatal (newborn baby) services will no longer be provided at Fairfield General Hospital.
This leaflet explains more about these changes and what they will mean for women and families in Bury.
