Core values and principles
In order to further embed our commitment to equality and diversity and delivering on this agenda that we have identified core values and principles on equality and diversity for NHS Bury…
NHS Bury’s core values and principles on equality and diversity
We believe that equality and diversity means acknowledging, celebrating and incorporating the richness of experiences of people who live and work in Bury. Diversity encompasses individual differences including race, gender, disability, age, ethnicity, sexuality, religion and culture. This Equalities Scheme is part of an overall strategy promoting, encouraging and embedding diversity in the work and culture of the Trust. We are committed to undertaking positive action in promoting equality. We will:
- Positively address areas where adverse impact may result in non-equitable treatment for different groups and to take action to eliminate such negative impact in meeting the general duty.
- Review our values and priorities so that they reflect the needs and aspirations of the local population.
- Pursue the elimination of institutional discrimination by engaging with groups and communities in a proactive and meaningful way.
The need to promote equality will therefore be taken into account in all our dealings with provider services, whether statutory, non-statutory or private sector.
In taking an approach that is both inward and outward looking the Trust will ensure the promotion of equality and diversity is not seen as peripheral but rather is embedded in our core business. We will work with our partners to achieve delivery of initiatives and work programmes to jointly agreed timescales. Where necessary we will change the way in which we work to promote equality and diversity.
