Progress to date
In the early part of 2011, a small team was put together to lead the development of Bury’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). Dr. Kiran Patel, a GP at Greenmount Medical Centre, took on a leading role. He was supported on a part time basis by three other local GPs and a small non-clinical team.
Thanks to the hard work of this development team, a lot of progress has been made, and more recently a number of appointments to the CCG Board have been made to drive this work further forward (please see details of the Board members below).
Bury’s CCG was formally established by the NHS Bury Locality Board at its meeting on the 16th November 2011. In summary, being established means that the Bury CCG was deemed ready to take responsibility for the leadership of the NHS in Bury in shadow form from 1st April 2012. From this point the Bury CCG Board took over from the NHS Bury Locality Board, reporting directly into the NHS Greater Manchester Board.
Being involved a full year ahead of being fully autonomous, will ensure Bury CCG is fully engaged in the commissioning of services. When fully authorised under statute, which is expected to be no later than 1st April 2013, Bury CCG will take on full financial responsibility. At the same time there will be the formal dissolution of Strategic Health Authorities and Primary Care Trusts.
