How we perform
The performance review (for NHS Bury) of 2010/11 reveals a mixed picture in relation to the extent to which NHS Bury achieved the required level of progress for national and local performance measures. Whilst some areas of performance were satisfactorily achieved including the majority of waiting times targets and the achievement of a break even financial position, 24 performance indicators incurred a fail outcome against their criteria, these are:
- MRSA
- Blood pressure
- Cholesterol
- GP and other referrals, general and acute (two indicators)
- Number of first and all outpatient attendances (two indicators)
- Managing variation in emergency admissions
- Managing variation in outpatient appointments
- A&E waiting times
- Access to primary dental services
- Access to primary care – satisfaction and telephone access
- Four week smoking quitters (two indicators)
- NHS Healthcheck
- Chlamydia – numbers screened and positive diagnosis (three indicators)
- Immunisations – 13 to 18 year olds
- People taking moderate exercise
- Female mortality rate
- Turnover, bank and agency, vacancies (three indicators)
These areas have remedial action plans in place as have those judged to be critical as follows:
- MRSA – There is a comprehensive action plan in place that involves a root cause analysis to identify learning points for prevention.
- Four week smoking quitters – (two targets). A revised action plan will encompass new measures in collaboration with all local partners.
- NHS Healthcheck – Funding established and pilot site lined up to kick start the implementation across the borough.
- Chlamydia screening (3 targets: % screened and the number of positive diagnoses) – A range of measures to be implemented to encourage increased uptake of screens, by encouraging young people and providers of care.
- Immunisations (13 to 18 year olds who complete immunisation with a booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria and polio) – A range of regional measures and local measures are being considered to address key issues.
