Transforming Health in Bury
People in Bury are being urged to play a part in improving local health. NHS Bury has launched the Transforming Health in Bury programme which will better focus resources whilst continuing to improve health and the quality of services.
Transforming Health in Bury is one of the most important programmes of work happening in the NHS in Bury and we need the help of local people to make it a success. Our challenge is to ensure that the impact of the global economic situation has as limited an effect on improving health and the health services in Bury as possible. To do this we must take positive action to review and remove any duplication and waste in the system. We need the feedback and comments from local people and users of services to help us in this essential task.
People in Bury can play a part in helping us by knowing and utilising the full range of NHS services that are available to them – you may be able to gain the advice you need from NHS Choices on the internet, at your pharmacy or NHS walk in centre. We all need to respect the resources that are available to the NHS and use them wisely. Think whether you need to re-order all your prescriptions and accept suggestions made by your doctor to try an alternative drug that is equally as effective, but cheaper for the NHS. We want people to help us to shape the future of health services in Bury by contacting us.”
Several areas have been prioritised by NHS Bury and are seen as key in the drive to ensure local resources are used to better effect:
- changing some of the ways the NHS works to reduce duplication, waste and unnecessary expense
- redesigning and modernising services concentrating on quality using patient feedback and priorities
- relying on staff and patients to make the fullest use of resources is as many ways as possible
- ensuring that local people have information about the full range of NHS services that are available
Some schemes introduced as part of Transforming Health in Bury have already begun to reap rewards by generating savings that can now be released for other purposes. These include the prescription of cheaper but equally as effective generic drugs, rather than more expensive branded ones and by offering patients a wider choice of venue for their treatment, outside of the hospital setting, which can offer shorter waiting times.
